204th Military Intelligence
Battalion
"Vigilant Hunters"
HISTORY
Activated on
October 14, 1983, at Lakehurst,
N.J., the unit was recognized as
the
Military Intelligence Battalion
(Low Intensity) (Provisional),
subordinate to the 513th Military
Intelligence Brigade. On July 15,
the
battalion relocated to Pomerola
Air Base, Honduras. While serving
in
Honduras, the unit formally
activated as the Military
Intelligence
Battalion (Low Intensity) on
October 1, 1989.
The MI
battalion (LI) was assigned to
INSCOM as a subordinate unit of
the
513th MI Brigade and attached to
the 470th MI Brigade while forward
deployed to Central America. Prior
to July 1991, the MI battalion
(LI)
consisted of a split-based TDA
organization with the battalion
commander, Staff, Headquarters
Service Detachment, Alpha Company
and
Bravo Company forward deployed to
Soto Cano Airbase, Honduras. The
remainder of the battalion,
Headquarters Service Company and
Charlie
Company, was based in Orlando,
Fla.
Delta
Company (Provisional) was
established in 1991. Funding,
planning and
development of unit structure
proceeded through the end of FY91.
Delta
Company (Airborne Reconnaissance
Low) was formally activated
January 1,
1993, at Howard Air Force Base,
Panama, and further designated as
Delta
Company (Forward). The company
returned to Fort Bliss, Texas, in
Summer
1999 as American forces left
Panama under the provisions of the
1977
Panama Canal Treaty.
In the
summer of 1993, Bravo Company
(Crazyhorse) and Charlie Company
(Guardrail) began relocation from
Honduras to Orlando. The
relocation
was completed in August 1993. In
March 1994, Alpha Company
reconstituted from a Seaborne
Operations to an Operations
Company and
relocated to Orlando.
Bravo
Company (Crazyhorse) completed
relocation of its assets to
Orlando in
May 1994.
In September
1994, Bravo Company (Crazyhorse)
transferred all of its assets to
the
138th MI Company (Reserve) and
deactivated. In October 1994,
Charlie
Company (Guardrail) retired its
assets and activated as Charlie
Company
(UAV) (Provisional) for future
inclusion of unmanned aerial
vehicles.
The
unit began its relocation to
Fort Bliss, Texas, completing
the move in
August 1997. Today, the 204th
Military Intelligence Battalion
(Aerial
Reconnaissance) consists of
Headquarters Service Company,
Charlie
Company, Delta Company. The
204th "VIGILANT HUNTERS"
continue to
support operations in several
theaters around the world.
